Space and Art

This week’s topic is by far my favorite of this course. People in the past couple of decades have been very fascinated by space because there are many things that are unknown about it. I didn’t know how space could have an impact in the art world, but I realized that space has many influences in art.
Annick Bureaud spoke about space art and how this subject is able to connect to fields such as visual art, dance, music, and literature

Curiosity of space not only led to advances in engineering, but also made moves in the media. Films such as E.T, Planet Stories, and Star Trek are a few examples of how the idea of space led to massive popularity in the mass media. Popular space related media has greatly influenced the public’s interest of space travel. Being a film minor, it is interesting to see how much public interest weighs in on the making of movies, television shows, and documentaries.
The topic of space has also given artists new ideas about artwork and their interpretation of the extra-terrestrial world. For example, Chesley Bonestell is an artist who used his imagination of space to create amazing artwork. His artwork inspired many people and brought about the idea of one day living in other planets.
I am very excited to find out more knowledge about what is beyond the earth. It seems like as space exploration advances, there is more public interest, therefore, more people that express their interest through art.
